DVA

The mission of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) is to support those who serve or have served in the defence of our nation and to commemorate their service and sacrifice. DVA supports veterans, war widows and widowers, serving and former defence force members, eligible Australian Federal Police members with overseas service; and their dependants and carers by delivering programs of care, compensation, commemoration and defence support services. The following are a number of forums where DVA interacts with the Veterans’ community.

  • Operational Working Party – The OWP forum is intended to:
    • enhance the ex-service community’s understanding of DVA’s service delivery performance through information sharing and improved communication between DVA and the ex-service community
    • be a forum for ex-service organisations to discuss concerns arising from the delivery of DVA services
    • identify and provide recommendations for improvements in operational policy to promote quality and accountability in service delivery.
  • ESO Round Table (ESORT) – This forum is intended to enhance the capacity of the Repatriation Commission and Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission. This forum aims to address issues of strategic importance to the ex-service and defence communities and assist in setting directions for the medium to long term.
  • Consultation with female veterans and veterans’ families – The Female Veterans and Veterans’ Families Forum provides a platform for female veterans and veterans’ families to generate ideas to solve issues facing their communities, co-design DVA products and services, and build networks across represented cohorts.
